Spring 2021 Season Updates

Spring 2021 Season Updates

Hello TLL Families,

We hope that the start of 2021 is going well for you and your family. I wanted to share some updates on what is being planned for the Tigard Little League this season. First, let me say, YES, we are planning on having a season for all levels of baseball and softball.

Registration for all levels will open on Monday Feb 15. Registration will match the same flow as you have seen in prior years with one new addition, a Covid-19 waiver. We invite boys and girls to join us, whatever the level. Registration will end for AA, AAA, Majors on March 4. Pee Wee levels will close registration on March 19.

Each family needs to consider what level to register their player(s). As we were not able to hold a traditional season last year, we recommend that you seriously consider registering your child at the same level as last year. Now is a good time to remind everyone that if a player starts at age 5 in Tee Ball and plays through age 12 majors, they will play at least 2 years at the same level. There are 8 years but only 6 levels included in Little League.

Managers and coaches will be required at all levels. If you would consider this, let either myself, the VP of Baseball, VP of Softball or Pee-Wee Player Agent. This league is entirely volunteer run. Without these volunteers, we will be unable to put together teams. We offer help in coaching, drills, and so many other things to help you.

Evaluations for AA, AAA, Majors, and softball Juniors will be held on March 6 and 7. All levels will be evaluated on the same weekend. We are working on the schedule a location, so more information will be forthcoming. There will not be a pre-eval warm-up session this year. We encourage all players to work on playing catch as they approach the evaluations.

Practices will begin the week of March 29 for AA-Majors level. For Pee Wee levels, they will start the week of April 12.

We know that for some of you, 2020 changed your financial status. If you find yourself in a situation where you are concerned about paying for the cost of registration, we encourage you to consider the T-Mobile Little League Call Up Grant at https://www.littleleague.org/call-up-grant-program/. This is an amazing opportunity to receive a grant to cover the cost. Note that this does not require prior participation in Little League.

Covid-19 has changed many things for us. TLL is no different. As we approach the season, we ask you and your player(s) to be prepared to wear cloth face masks at all practices and games. Gators, bandanas, lace face masks or other non-mask items will not be approved. The league will have sanitation kits for each team at each practice or game. The supplies will include hand santizer, wipes and other items to ensure the field stays safe. We will also be asking all parents to assess their child for signs of illness, prior to arriving at the field. Based on the OHA Risk Level, we will also need to modify how many people can be on a field at a time. More information will be sent as we approach the season. But in the meantime, if you have questions, please let me know.

Tigard Little League is lots of fun. We love nothing more than to see the kids on the fields. We encourage each family to reach out to kids in your bubble, who might be interested in participating this year.

All TLL families are invited to attend the TLL Board meetings. They are held the 3rd Sunday of each month at 6:30 pm. We are currently meeting virtually. All board members are volunteer. We would love to add a few more individuals. If you are interested, please let me know. To increase opportunities to know the inner workings of the league, we will be sending notices via email and social media of upcoming board meetings. Our next meeting is on Feb 21 at 6:30 pm.

Lots of information in this email. But I wanted to ensure we got as much information out as possible. If you have questions, let me know.

Respectfully,

Michelle Cooper
